Dental Practice, Kennington
If you've stopped smiling with your teeth showing, there's usually a straightforward fix — and it's often smaller and cheaper than you'd expect. The first step is finding out what's realistic for your teeth.
Cosmetic dentistry is treatment that changes how your teeth look — their colour, shape, size, position or symmetry — rather than treating disease.
In practice the two overlap constantly. A chipped front tooth is both a cosmetic problem and a weakened tooth. Crowded teeth are harder to clean, so straightening them protects them. The good cosmetic plans are the ones that leave your mouth healthier, not just prettier.
Dr Nader Gavgani has completed extensive training in cosmetic smile makeovers and has a particular interest in clear aligner treatment. Every cosmetic plan here starts with an honest assessment of the teeth underneath — decay and gum disease get treated first, because cosmetic work built on an unhealthy foundation doesn't last.

Most people come in about one thing they've disliked for years. The fix is often smaller and cheaper than they expect.
Most people arrive knowing what bothers them rather than what it's called. Find your complaint on the left.
| What bothers you | Usual answer | From |
|---|---|---|
| My teeth are yellow or stained | Teeth whitening | £395 |
| One tooth is chipped | Composite bonding | £350 |
| My front teeth are uneven, worn or the wrong shape | Porcelain veneers | £950 each |
| My teeth are crooked or crowded | Invisalign clear aligners | £3,500 |
| There's a gap between my front teeth | Bonding or Invisalign, depending on the size | £350 |
| A tooth is heavily broken down or root-filled | Porcelain crown | £950 |
| I have a missing tooth | Dental implant | £2,000 |
| I have old grey fillings on show | White composite fillings | £160 |
This table is a starting point, not a diagnosis. Which treatment actually suits you depends on the health of the tooth, your bite and how much enamel there is to work with — that's what a consultation is for.
What we do
The cheapest, least invasive change you can make, and often the only one needed. Lifts years of coffee, tea and wine staining. ZOOM home kit £395, top-ups £30 a syringe.
Thin porcelain shells bonded to the front of the teeth, changing shape, size, colour and symmetry at once. £950 per tooth (E-MAX).
Tooth-coloured composite shaped directly onto the tooth to repair a chip, close a small gap or reshape an edge — usually in one visit, with little or no drilling. From £350.
Straightens crowded, gapped or tilted teeth using clear removable trays rather than fixed metal braces. From £3,500, and the consultation is complimentary.
For a tooth too broken down for a filling. A porcelain or metal-free crown covers and protects what's left while matching your natural colour. £950.
A fixed replacement for a missing tooth, anchored into the jaw so it doesn't move. From £2,000, placed here rather than referred elsewhere.
A smile makeover is a plan that combines several cosmetic treatments — usually whitening, bonding, veneers or aligners — sequenced in the right order to change a whole smile rather than one tooth.
Sequence matters more than people expect. Teeth are whitened before veneers or bonding are made, because porcelain and composite don't lighten afterwards — do it the other way round and the new work no longer matches. Crooked teeth are usually straightened before they're reshaped, which often means less porcelain is needed in the end.
A makeover is planned around one question: what do you want to change? Some people want a complete difference. Plenty just want one front tooth to stop bothering them. Both are legitimate answers and you won't be talked up from the second to the first.
Step by step
Not in dental terms — in your own words. “I hate this gap.” “My teeth look grey in photos.” That's exactly the right level of detail to start from.
An examination of the teeth, gums and bite. Any decay, gum disease or failing old work is dealt with first. Cosmetic dentistry bonded onto an unhealthy tooth fails, and it fails expensively.
Usually more than one route to the same result, with the trade-offs explained — cost, how much natural tooth is involved, how long it lasts and how long it takes. Including, where it applies, the option of doing nothing.
Whitening first, then shaping and bonding, then porcelain if it's needed. You see progress at each stage rather than waiting to find out at the end.
Regular check-ups and hygiene visits protect the work you've paid for. Whitening top-ups are £30 a syringe when you want to refresh the shade.

Questions
It depends entirely on the treatment. At Pure Elegant Smile, composite bonding starts at £350, a ZOOM whitening kit is £395, a porcelain veneer or crown is £950 per tooth, and Invisalign starts at £3,500. Every price is published in our fee guide.
It depends which treatment. Whitening and composite bonding remove little or no natural tooth. Veneers and crowns need some tooth to be prepared, which is permanent — so they're recommended when there's a real reason for them, not as a default. You'll always be told what a treatment involves before you agree to it.
Bonding is usually one appointment. Whitening with a home kit takes a couple of weeks of wear. Veneers and crowns take two visits while the lab makes them. Invisalign typically takes around a year. A full smile makeover is planned in stages over several months.
No. Plenty of people come in about one tooth and leave having had one tooth treated. We won't push you towards a bigger plan than the one you came for.
Before, always. Porcelain and composite don't change colour once they're made, so the shade of your new work is matched to your teeth as they are at that moment. Whiten first and the match holds; whiten afterwards and your natural teeth will end up lighter than the new work.
Purely cosmetic treatment isn't available on the NHS. Pure Elegant Smile is a private practice, and every fee is published so you can see the cost before committing.
That's the normal starting point and it's a perfectly good one. Come in, point at what bothers you, and we'll tell you what the options are — including whether there's a small, cheap answer before you consider a big one.
