What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is orthodontic treatment that uses a series of custom-made clear plastic aligners to move teeth gradually into a new position. The aligners are removable and worn about 20–22 hours a day.
Each aligner in the series is very slightly different from the last. You wear one for a week or two, then move to the next, and the accumulated difference moves your teeth along a planned path. It's the same physics as a fixed brace, applied in small steps you can take out.
Treatment here is carried out by Dr Nader Gavgani (GDC 75484), who has completed extensive training in clear aligner treatment and has a particular interest in it.
Aligners come out to eat and to brush. That's the practical difference most people notice against a fixed brace — and the reason they only work if you wear them.
What can Invisalign fix?
Crowded teeth
Too little room for the teeth you have, so they overlap. Crowding tends to worsen with age, and overlapping surfaces are hard to clean — which is why crowding raises the risk of decay and gum disease, not just how your teeth look.
Gaps between teeth
Spacing, whether from teeth that are small for the jaw or a gap left by a lost tooth. Beyond appearance, gaps let food pack against the gum, which over time causes gum problems.
Deep bite
The upper front teeth cover the lower ones too far. A deep bite wears the lower teeth down, can irritate the gum behind the upper teeth, and is associated with jaw and joint pain.
Underbite
The lower teeth sit in front of the upper ones. It can stop front teeth and molars working normally, causing uneven wear and jaw ache. Mild cases often respond to aligners; where the cause is the position of the jaw itself rather than the teeth, aligners are not the answer and you should be told so plainly.
Open bite
The front teeth don't meet when the back teeth do, leaving a gap you can see through. It makes biting into food awkward and can affect speech.
Clear aligners aren't right for everything. Severe misalignment, significant jaw discrepancies and some rotations are better treated another way — and gum disease or decay must be treated before any teeth are moved. Moving teeth through an unhealthy mouth makes the underlying problem worse.
Fixed braces are still the right answer for some cases. Which one suits you depends on the movement needed, not on preference alone.

The honest trade-off is discipline. Aligners are more comfortable and far less visible, but they sit in a glass of water doing nothing whenever you take them out. If you know you'd leave them out, a fixed brace may genuinely suit you better — and we'd rather say that than sell you the more expensive option.

Your plan is designed
Scans and records are used to map the path each tooth will take and how many aligners it will need. You'll see what the finished position should look like, and the price and timescale are confirmed before you commit.
You start wearing them
Each aligner is worn 20–22 hours a day and changed on schedule. Expect tightness and mild ache for a day or two after each change — that's the treatment working, and it settles quickly.
Check-ups along the way
Short appointments to confirm the teeth are tracking to plan. If something isn't moving as expected, it's adjusted early rather than at the end.

When the teeth are where you want them, retainers hold them there. Vivera retainers are £595 for three sets, and an Essix retainer is £200 per arch.
Will my teeth move back afterwards?
Yes — teeth naturally drift back towards their old position after any orthodontic treatment. Retainers are what prevent it, and they are needed for life.
This is the single most important thing to understand before starting, and it's the thing patients are most often not told. Straightening your teeth is a course of treatment with an end date. Keeping them straight is permanent.
